Self Catering Cottage Holidays in the Cotswolds
The Broadway Hotel is a landmark hotel in the heart of Broadway. Did you know that we also have three village-centre cottages available?
There are plenty of good reasons to rent a cottage in the Cotswolds. There are also a few things to bear in mind when planning your visit. This blog offers tips and advice on getting the most from a self-catering break in this beautiful corner of England.
Here’s what to bear in mind:
Location:
Decide on a specific area within the Cotswolds that you'd like to stay in, whether it's a village or a more remote countryside location.
Amenities:
Consider the size of the cottage and the amenities offered. Do you need a large cottage with multiple bedrooms or will a smaller one suffice? Check for amenities like a fireplace, garden, or parking.
Local services:
As a rural destination, it’s worth checking how far away the nearest food shop/petrol station/pub is.
Reviews and ratings:
Look for reviews from previous guests to get an idea of the quality of the cottage and what other guests liked most about the cottage.
Availability:
Check the availability of the cottage for your desired dates. It's also a good idea to book well in advance, especially during peak seasons, to ensure that you get the cottage of your choice. The peak times in the Cotswolds are actually in Spring and Autumn. Another tip is to check the Broadway events calendar, there's a busy season of events here, from supercar rallies to food festivals and you might like to time your visit to coincide with one of them. You can keep an eye on the annual list of events on local websites.
Pets:
If you're planning to bring pets, make sure the cottage is pet-friendly.
Weather!
We all hope for the best weather, but it’s always good to be confident that there are a few wet weather options nearby.
Cotswold Cottages in Broadway
Our three Broadway cottages are called Manderley, Bumble Bee and Beagle. It’s worth emphasing that these cottages aren’t purpose-built additions to the hotel - they’re separate and individual cottages dotted around Broadway village. What the cottages do have in common is a dog-friendly, village centre location, individual interior (and exterior) design, excellent kitchens, dedicated parking, Molton Brown toiletries and a private garden. Oh, and complimentary Netflix.
Our Cottages
Each cottage is Gold Rated by VisitBritain:
Manderley Cottage sleeps 4 adults and is located right on Broadway village green.
Beagle Cottage is our latest addition and sleeps 4, with the unusual feature of a wood burning outdoor pizza oven.
The very cosy Bumble Bee Cottage sleeps 2 and is in Church Street, five minutes walk from the hotel.
Cottages are available for a minimum 3-night stay, with the arrival day of your choice, subject to availability.
When it comes to the best place to stay in the Cotswolds, well (not surprisingly), we think that Broadway is a great choice. Here are some reasons why:
Location: Broadway is in the north Cotswolds linked by some of the best Cotswold scenic routes to much-loved villages such as Chipping Campden, Stow-on-the-Wold and Bourton-on-the-Water. Many of the essential visitor attractions, from National Trust properties to historic gardens and castles, are in the north Cotswolds.
On rainy days, a visit to Cheltenham or Stratford-Upon-Avon is within range and, of course, a central location makes it easy to time things to avoid downpours whilst you explore the village.
Amenities: Head over to our Cottage pages for a full listing of amenities. You can expect plenty of attention to detail in our cottages, from thoughtful welcome hampers to Nespresso machines. You’ll find local books and guides, games, great beds and all the touches that earn us our five star awards.
Local Services: Broadway really is perfect in this respect. The Broadway Deli is a seriously wonderful deli, right on our High Street. There’s a good Mid Counties Co-op; Collins, a great local butcher and some unusual options too ranging from a Cotswold Distillery outlet, to a Cotswold Chocolate shop.
As an established Cotswold village, Broadway has excellent restaurants and several pubs, not least our very own Jockey Bar and terrace. Incidentally, our guests benefit from a 15% reduction on food bills at the hotel.
Review and Ratings We’ve already mentioned our 5 star rating for the cottages, but what we’re really most proud of are comments from our guests. Here’s our most recent review (April 2024), at the time of writing, which nicely sums up what we aim for:
We stayed in Bumble Bee cottage while attending a family wedding. The cottage was spotless, extremely comfortable, dog friendly and we received a lovely welcome hamper! The bonus of private parking and the proximity to the high street was just perfect.

Availability Our cottages are popular and we do recommend booking well in advance. Beagle Cottage is relatively new and so has fewer repeat bookings - so it’s worth a try at busy times.
We aim to be flexible by not insisting on week-long stays, and it’s well worth following us on social media for details of last minute cancellations.
Pets All cottages are dog-friendly. The walk up to nearby Broadway Tower might have been tailor-made for dogs and owners to enjoy a circular walk together (with a cafe at the top!).
We hope that we’ve made a good case for a stay in Broadway. You can book online or better still, do give us a call to discuss which cottage might be best for you.
